Our highest honor, the Rainbow Award, was created in 1985 by Bob Brumfield and Dan McDevitt. Traditionally, the Rainbow Award is presented to a Seattle Men's Chorus member for "Meritorious Service Beyond All Reason" at our annual retreat.
Fun fact: The community of past Rainbow recipients is called the Spectrum.
The Spotlight Award recognizes a Seattle Men's Chorus member who shines in the spotlight, on or off the stage. (Frequently both.)
The Membership Council selects up to five UnSung Heroes each year in recognition of their continuous, consistent, positive contributions to our chorus community. Many of their most valuable contributions are the type of small actions and kindnesses that might otherwise go unnoticed and overlooked.
Seattle Men's Chorus singers nominate and vote on this award, typically based on an individual's community contributions over the past season. This award has variously been called "Singer of the Year," "Outstanding Member," and "Member of the Year."

The Ruby Award is for "Outstanding Volunteerism to Seattle Men's Chorus." The chorus staff present a Ruby in recognition of those chorus members who contribute more time and energy than most. Their criteria take into account both the amount of time and the quality of the contribution.
The Emerald Award is for "Outstanding Ongoing Support of Seattle Men's Chorus." The chorus staff present an Emerald to those chorus members who continually contribute their time and energy to accomplishing the mission of the Chorus.
The Diamond Award is for "Lifetime Achievement to Seattle Men's Chorus." The chorus staff select recipients who've made exceptional contributions of time and energy over a period lasting longer than five years.
The Lollipop Guild Award recognizes the people who make high-quality professional contributions to Seattle Men's Chorus that exceed what their stipend could ever repay.
Ruby Slipper recipients are recognized for "Giving 'Til It Hurts." This is the highest honor from the chorus staff.
Fun fact: Once a Seattle Men's Chorus member has a Ruby Slipper, they're no longer eligible for the Ruby, Emerald, or Diamond awards.
